Robert Louis Kenyon
Robert Louis Kenyon passed away on June 23, 2024 at St. Francis Home under SSM Hospice Care. He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Donald and Pluma Kenyon on April 6, 1944.
He went to St. Mary’s Catholic School from 1st to 8th grade and then attended St. Mary’s Springs Academy, graduating in 1962. He went to UW- Oshkosh for 3 and ½ years, and then enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and served for 4 years as an instrument man.
After being discharged in 1970, he went on to enlist in the US Naval Reserve program and served another 26 years, retiring in the year 2000 with 30 years as a Chief Petty Officer.
In 1970, he began work with his Uncle Russel Kenyon at his retail jewelry store in Oshkosh, working as a watchmaker. He then made a career change in 1988 and started with the State of Wisconsin Corrections at the Oshkosh Correctional Center. He worked there until he retired in 2011.
In his retirement years, Bob enjoyed his lifelong hobby of boating, which he looked forward to on any day that the weather would allow. He still dabbled in watch making, mostly changing batteries in friends’ watches. He also enjoyed his little Scottie friends, Chauncey, One and Two, and Tootie. Taking them to Bailey’s Harbor was always a highlight of the year for the Scottie Rally.
Bob is survived by his two sons Andrew (Andrea) Kenyon of Oshkosh and Eppy (Anne) Thatcher of Portland, Oregon; two grandsons Archer and Abel Kenyon; his fiancée and caretaker Mary Jill Gentzen and her daughters Joan (Sarah) and Jean; and two sisters Kathy (Gary) Lautenschlaeger of Fond du Lac and Laurie Cetnar of North Fond du Lac. He is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many special friends including Paul Hunt, Robert and Pam O’Brien, and John and Terry Schneider.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol (Bill) Muenter, two brothers-in-law Mark Kedinger and John Cetnar, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bob’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation at 11:30 AM followed by military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Humane Society.
