Roger Jacob Birschbach
Roger Jacob Birschbach, age 91, of Malone, died Monday, September 16, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. He was born May 27, 1933, in Mt. Calvary, the son of Walter and Antonia (Lauby) Birschbach. Roger served in the US Army from 1953-1955 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. On September 8, 1956, he married MaryAnn Freund of St. Peter at St. Peter Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2016.
Roger was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Through the years, Roger, together with MaryAnn, welcomed and loved 25 children as foster parents. He was a leader in raising funds for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, a committed 4-H leader, softball coach, served as the Town of Taycheedah Constable and he was an active member of the Abler-Engel American Legion Post 454 in Mt Calvary.
In his free time, he loved camping with his family, going deer hunting with Jon and Ethan, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events, helping Jon around the farm and always enjoyed a good polka dance. In 2019 he was honored to be on the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, DC. For 28 years he worked in the service department at Kitz and Pfeil Ace Hardware store in Fond du Lac. He cherished the close friendships he developed with his coworkers and customers.
Survivors are his children Jonathon (fiancé Colleen) Birschbach of Fond du Lac, Katie (Steve) Kotansky of Fond du Lac, Catherine Kostka of Wausau, John Schultz of Fond du Lac, Brenda Connor of Fond du Lac, Jenny (Brian) Munson of Fond du Lac, Leeane Birschbach of Fond du Lac; ten grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob, Joe, Samantha, Robert, Abigail, William, Antonia, Macie, and Hunter; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Farah and Oden; brothers and sisters, Ralph Birschbach of Mt. Calvary, Betty Costello of Fond du Lac, Gordon Birschbach of Oconomowoc, Rose (David) Faucher of Malone, Paul (NancyLee) Birschbach of Mt. Calvary; sisters-in-law, Patricia Birschbach of Mt. Calvary, Michele Birschbach of Chandler, AZ, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Roger in death were his parents, Walter and Antonia Birschbach, his wife MaryAnn, his brothers, Henry Birschbach and Wayne Birschbach, his sister Delores Ecker, his brothers-in-law James Costello and Clarence Freund, and sisters-in-law June Birschbach and Barb Birschbach.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Trinity Baptist Church, 400 East Johnson Street in Fond du Lac. A memorial service will follow the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dan Leeds officiating. Cremation has taken place.
