Rose M. Karsten

Rose M. Karsten, 95, passed away on June 26, 2026, at the Frontida Liberty House in Fond du Lac. She was born on December 23, 1930, to her parents John and Anna Shwed.

Rose had a lifelong love for children and devoted many years to caring for infants. She found great joy in cooking and baking and was happiest in the kitchen, filling her home with homemade meals and treats that she generously shared with family, friends, and neighbors. Above all, Rose was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family. She also had a special place in her heart for her cats. She will be remembered for her compassion, love, sharp sense of humor and funny nature.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; sisters, Mary, Tillie, Angie, Esther, Katherine; brothers, John and Joe; and best friends, Ruth Hoey and Audrey Gross.

Rose is survived by her children, Lori (Dan) Witthuhn and Randy (Beth) Karsten; grandchildren, Danny (Alissa) Witthuhn, Andie Karsten, and Erin (Joe) Porrey; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, in Fond du Lac. A Liturgy of the Word will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Frontida Liberty House for the compassionate care they have shown over the past 5 years and to the staff of Compassus Hospice for their care of Rose.

Anyone attending, if you can, please wear something blue to honor Rose’s favorite color.
