Ruth Vande Berg
Ruth Vande Berg, 76, of Waupun, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at her home.
Ruth was born July 27, 1937 in Waupun, the daughter of Gerritt and Maggie Broadway Stelsel. Ruth was a 1955 graduate of Waupun High School. On September 16, 1959 she married Chester “Chet” Vande Berg in Alto. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Waupun area most of their married lives, and moved to Waupun in 2009. Ruth was employed at The Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun for 21 years and retired in 2013. Ruth was an active member of Alto Reformed Church in Alto where she also played the organ for many years. Ruth enjoyed music, playing cards, and walking and working outdoors. She loved spending time with family and friends. She especially loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by two daughters; Terri Vande Berg of Dallas, TX and Jill (Scott) Van De List of rural Waupun; three grandchildren, Adrea (Nate) Daane of Waupun, Rene Van De List of Oshkosh, and Kurt Van De List of Dubuque, IA; two great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Porter Daane; a brother, Junior (Delores) Stelsel of Waupun; sister-in-law, Ardell Stelsel of Waupun; brothers-in-law, Wallace “Art” (Arlene) Vande Berg of Brandon and Preston “Pat” Vande Berg of Waupun; sisters-in-law, Marcella Vande Berg of Brandon and Donna Vande Berg of Markesan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 2013; a sister, Junice Stelsel; a brother, Milan Stelsel; brothers-in-law, Bernard, Alvin, Edward, Donald, and Raymond Vande Berg, and Bill Van Ruiswyk; and sisters-in-law, Henrietta Van Ruiswyk, and Murial, Joann, Joyce and Carol Vande Berg.
Funeral services for Ruth Vande Berg will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Alto Reformed Church with Rev. Ted Lindman and Rev. Ted Medema officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives of Ruth Vande Berg may call on the family on Wednesday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
