Sister Lois Karlin
Sister Lois Karlin, CSA, Sylvia Karlin, died on December 3, 2013, at Nazareth Center in Fond du Lac, WI.
Sylvia was born August 16, 1913, in Catherine, KS, to Frank E. Karlin and Anna Mary Schmidt. There were fifteen children in the family, eight boys and seven girls. One brother became a Capuchin priest in Kansas and five girls became Sisters of St. Agnes in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Sister Lois professed her vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August 15, 1934. She received a B.S. degree in Education and an M.A. degree in Business Education and Administration. She also received certificates in Computer Training and in Food Service. Sister Lois taught in elementary schools and in high schools as a business teacher, in Illinois, Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin for 56 years. After her long ministry in education, Sister Lois did office work at The Leo House in New York City and worked at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays, KS, in admissions and research.
Preceding her in death were: her parents Frank and Anna (Schmidt) Karlin; her brothers, Alvin, Benno, Father Paulinus, OFM Cap, Eugene, Wilfric, Marne, Cletus, Francis; and her sisters, Sister Mary Catherine, Sister Francis Ann, Sister Anne, Sister Marcella, Isabelle Linenberger, and Teckla Werth.
Sister Lois is survived by her nieces and nephews and by the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.
Visitation for Sister Lois will be on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. in Nazareth Court and Center. A Prayer Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. that day in the Nazareth Center Chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 7, 2013, 9:30 a.m., in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St., Fond du Lac, WI. The presider will be Father Ken Smits, OFM Cap. The burial will follow at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery.
