Socorro Lujan Olsen

Socorro Lujan Olsen, 75, was taken into eternal peace on December 12, 2023, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born to Estanislada and Manuel Solis in San Antonio, Texas in 1948; but grew up in Kansas City and attended Redemptorist Catholic School. In 1967, she met the love of her life Robert Olsen and married on April 20, 1968. After several military moves, they settled in Fond du Lac where they raised their family. Socorro, known to most as “Soc”, worked a variety of jobs but most of her career was spent between Marian College and Fond du Lac School District’s Fine Arts Department. She was known to be an avid supporter of the arts and spent as much time working with art educators as she did in developing her own. It was not uncommon for soft-spoken Soc to try her hand in things such as community theater, poetry creation, painting in a variety of medias and the development of art via various methods. The woman who had a notable gift of the written language even began her own online poetry group Eons Poets All Call. Her beautiful and sometimes quirky artwork was created with love and often given away with even more love – her talent and beautiful voice, although silenced by Alzheimer’s, lives forever through the gifts she provided in so many ways.

Socorro is survived by her loving husband of over 55 years Robert, her daughter Robin (Michael) Winkler; her son Robert (Joseph Perdue) Olsen; her grandchildren Antonia Winkler and Veronica Winkler. Her sisters Florence (Charlie) Williams and Henrietta Lujan of Kansas City; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Gray along with many adored nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law Vern Olsen, her mother-in-law Marie Olsen, sisters- and brothers-in-law Doris and Gordy Treffert, Vern and Gert Olsen, and brother-in-law Carl Gray, as well as several nephews and extended family.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow the service at the funeral home at 5:00 PM. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Agnesian Foundation, 430 Division St, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Please enter Adult Day Services in the memo line.

Socorro’s family would like to acknowledge Julie Schwarz, along with her staff, at SSM Adult Daycare; and the Hospice Home of Hope for the exceptional care, support and love extended to both mom and her family through a very difficult journey.
