Stephen K. “Bucky” Baseley
Stephen K. “Bucky” Baseley 75, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 5, 1949, the son of Kendall “Red” and Neva Baseley. He was a graduate of Woodstock High School class of 1967 and a graduate of Lakeland College 1971. He also served in the United States Navy. On Saturday, June 5th, 1971 Steve married Daine Saladin in Woodstock, IL at St. Mary’s Church.
Steve’s positive attitude and need to chat was always on display. He loved to cook, bake and eat while surrounded by family. He always continued enjoying the meals by telling everyone he could reach, about the latest awesome meal that was consumed. His need for connecting with others lead to his family bestowing the nickname “K-F-I-Steve” upon him. He enjoyed multiple weekly breakfasts with friends affectionately dubbed “Old man’s breakfast” which provided his broadcast material for the week.
Steve was a long-time employee of St. Agnes Hospital as Business Manager, later working for other healthcare providers around the state of Wisconsin. After his retirement from the healthcare field Steve fueled his need for interacting with others in his retirement job as a Customer Service Representative for Spectrum.
Coaching football was an incredible passion for Steve, having coached St. Joe’s (later FACES) grade school in Fond du Lac, also with the Merrill, WI youth football program, and later JFL in Fond du Lac. Steve dedicated over 25 years of coaching football and touching thousands of lives. It was not unusual for kids, or even adults he coached dozens of years ago, to walk up to him and call him Coach Baseley. Coaching was one of the ways he connected with his family, coaching beside his son and having his grandsons play for him as a coach. Other passions Steve enjoyed included fishing and the outdoors.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his children, Tyler (Julie) Baseley, Stuart (Katie Post) Baseley, Gretchen (Brian) Jones. He will also be remembered as “Papa Bucky” by his ten grandchildren, Alyssa (Tremond), Gavin, Abraham, Drew,
Easton, Dominik, Kathleen, Neva, Camden and Eleanor, as well as two great grandchildren Cassius and Scarlett. Steve is survived by his wife Daine, as well as his sister Barbara Moe and mother-in-law Marietta Saladin. Steve will be forever remembered by his co-workers, extended family and dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Kendall and Neva Baseley, as well as his father-in-law Kenneth Saladin.
