Thomas J. Hannes

Thomas J. Hannes, age 86, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, September 3, 2018, at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born on October 4, 1931, in Fond du Lac, the son of Joseph L. and Cleone L. (Jarvis) Hannes. Tom graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from November 11, 1951 to November 26, 1955 as an Air Traffic Controller and a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. On August 18, 1962 he married Marion G. Kielberg at St. Louis Church. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2014. Tom worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty-one years until retiring in 1988.

Tom was a member of Holy Family Parish and attended Sacred Heart Church, St. Louis Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus #664, the American Legion, the National Association of Active Federal Retirees, former treasurer of St. Vincent de Paul, and former secretary treasurer of the Postal Credit Union of Fond du Lac.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanine (Charles “Gordy”) Schroeder of Fond du Lac; four grandchildren, Rochelle (DJ) Ohm and their children Kady and Jaeger of Cokato, MN, Charles (Kathy) Schroeder and their children Austin, Katelynn of New Holstein, Jeremiah (Kathy) Schroeder and their children Kaleigh, Wesley, and Samantha, of Appleton, Timothy (Koreena) Schroeder of Fond du Lac and their children, Annika and Finnley; his siblings, Suzanne Higgins of Fond du Lac, Claudia (Jim) Kitts of Fond du Lac, and Rodney (Jean) Hannes of Fairview Heights, IL; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn; one brother, James Hannes; one sister and brother-in-law, Karilyn and Norbert Wallender.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 2-5 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 10, 2018, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church-Holy Family Parish, 200 S. Peters Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Visitation will take place on Monday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
