Tyler R. Kobs
Tyler R. Kobs, 72, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, September 1, 2023,
at Azura Memory Care of Oshkosh. He was born on February 5, 1951, in Fond du Lac, the son
of John and Cecelia (Blattner) Kobs. Tyler graduated from Fond du Lac High School and later
moved to Florida where he acquired his license to become a respiratory therapist. In 1991, he
moved back to Fond du Lac and worked various jobs throughout his remaining years. One of
those jobs (hobby) for which he was known for was his drumming skills. He played for Fiddle
and Crab and later he helped create a blues band known as Flat Tire.
Tyler was a gentle giant with an odd sense of humor. He enjoyed playing drums and watching
Star Wars. He also loved to eat, especially tacos. He took pride in his PT Cruiser. Tyler had lots
of love to give and will be deeply missed.
Tyler is survived by two brothers, David (Darleen “DoBee”) and Timothy (Julie) Kobs, both of
Fond du Lac; three nephews, Joseph, Matthew, and Adam Kobs; niece, Katherine Kobs; great
nephew, Colin; and a great niece, Dalylah. He is further survived by Lance (Jessica) Nennig,
who was his cousin by blood but also his best friend (son); Lance’s children, Kendra and Kaleb,
were a bright light in his life. They often called him “Grunkel”, a special name that they had for
him.
Tyler was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cecelia Kobs; two brothers, John Peter and
Robert Kobs; two aunts, Ann Blattner Heath and Donna Kobs; uncle, Douglas Kobs; as well as
two cousins, Terry Olson and Jason Heath.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Edgewood Community
Church in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be from 2 PM – 4 PM with a service at 4 PM. A private
family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the music department of Edgewood Community Church in
Tyler’s name.
On behalf of Tyler’s family and friends, we want to thank the workers at Azura for their
compassionate care over the past couple of years.
