Wilfred M. “Willie” Abler
Wilfred M. “Willie” Abler, 86, of Malone, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. Willie was born in the village of Glenbeulah on December 10, 1929 a son of William and Rose (Braun) Abler. On September 4, 1954, he married Marie Mand at St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Peter. Willie was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving Willie is his wife, Marie; his 5 children, Betty (Bob) Schnyder, Jane Ziegelbauer, Ron (Kris), Sandy (Pete) Knaus, and Kay (Kevin) Blanck; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is further survivied by 6 sisters, Julitta (Elmer) Schmitz, Rita Diederichs, Lorraine Ballwanz, Bernice (Gerald) Diederichs, Marion (Ron) Freund and Kathy (Al) Kempf; 1 brother, Don (Dianna); 2 brothers-in-law, Servie (Marie) Mand and Leo (Irene) Mand; and 3 sisters-in-law, Gen Koplien, Esther Mand and Virginia Schneider. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose; a brother, Roger (Mary); 8 brothers-in-law, Bob Ballwanz, Melvin Diederichs, Al (Lydia) Mand, Ambrose (Agnes) Mand, Ray (Mary) Mand, Fritz Mand, Emil Kapplien and Adolph Schneider; and a sister-in-law, Florence (Alex) Michels.
VISITATION for Willie will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Peter. MASS of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Parish Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion, Trier-Puddy Post #75.
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of Villa Loretto for their care of Willie throughout the previous 3 months.
