William J. “Bill” Promen

William J. “Bill” Promen, 73 of Eden, passed away on January 31, 2024 at home. He was born August 9, 1950 in Fond du Lac to George and Winnifred (Cochrane) Promen.

Bill was employed by the North Fond du Lac School District as an art teacher for 35 years. He was well loved by his students and faculty. He had a huge impact on decades of students who will always remember his unorthodox teaching style. In addition to teaching, Bill invested much of his time and talents to other family endeavors.

Bill was his own person, unique in EVERY way. He marched to the beat of his own drum and he always colored outside the lines, fitting perfectly with his career. Bill had a great sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh.

Bill was a dedicated Packers fan and hated the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid gardener with a special flare for hostas. Bill loved his time outdoors and spent many hours hunting with his son and friends. Wood carving was another hobby Bill enjoyed along with silk screening. He was a dimensional artist first, and a foundational artist second.

Bill was very involved with his five grandchildren. He wore his heart on his sleeve for them. Bill was the rock for many of his family members.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary; children Patrick (Jenny) Promen, and Meghan Treleven; special family members Joe Treleven and Dustin Vaughn; grandchildren Zoey, Atlas, Easton, Gwen, and Michaela; nieces Jennifer (Ron) Hackbarth, Stephanie Bartow, Lena Bartow, Angela (Jim) Borski, and Michelle (Duane) Hass; nephew Zachary (Ashley) Frank, Aspen and Riggs Frank; sisters-in-law Jill (Leroy) Schmitz and Jodi Beard; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary (Bill) Beam and Ann (Harley) Wild.

Bill’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. A memorial service will take place following the service at 6:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the North Fond du Lac School District Art Department.
