Officials say ice is thin, stay off
As cold weather sets in, local public safety officials are urging people to use caution when going out on ice that may be starting to cover area bodies of water saying the thickness isn’t there yet to support much weight.
This was observed in Oshkosh Monday morning, December 1, 2025, when Oshkosh firefighters were dispatched to save two dogs that fell through ice on an area pond.
The owner of the dogs was able to get one of the dogs out prior to the fire department’s arrival, and the fire department got the second dog out within minutes.
Experts say ice less than three inches thick should be avoided as it’s not strong enough to support the weight of a person.
