Old Man Winter holding it’s grip on area with well below normal temperatures

Cold weather continues to keep its grip over the area. Overnight lows Tuesday, February 18, 2025, got much colder than what was originally thought with lows dropping to -20 degrees over the area with windchill values hitting -35 degrees. KFIZ spoke with the National Weather Service to confirm that that was a true temperature and not a result of a faulty reading and they said that with Fond du Lac County being in a slight valley below the surrounding area, and the dewpoint being at -25, that this is likely a true reading, though they also agreed that it was pretty unexpected for the temperature to drop that low. Technically we should have been in an extreme cold warning with a windchill at -35 degrees, but likely due to this being for a short duration, (about an hour) the weather service has opted to not issue the warning. A cold weather advisory is in effect for the county however until noon today.

Temperatures, and therefore wind chills, will warm through the daylight hours today, with afternoon highs in the upper single digits to near 10 degrees, and wind chill values rising into the negative single digits.

We see a cold weather advisory in the area tonight as we again drop well below 0 with those northwest winds giving us a wind chill value of near 25 degrees below 0.
