One dead, several injured in back to back multi-vehicle crashes in Dodge County

Two serious crashes in north eastern Dodge County kept authorities busy their yesterday.

The first crash occurred at around 5:45 am on Highway 28, about 2 miles south of Mayville.

Initial investigation showed a car and pickup truck were westbound on State Hwy 28. The driver of the pickup truck passed the passenger car, then lost control, entering the eastbound lanes and striking a semi tractor trailer that was traveling eastbound on 28.

The driver of the pick up, a 43-year-old man from Columbus, was transported to Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man from Mayville was uninjured. And The driver of the semi, a 37-year-old man from Mayville, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Highway 28 remained closed to traffic for about two and a half hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

Less than an hour after leaving the scene of the first crash, at around 8:00 a.m., Dodge County deputies responded to a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 49 near County Highway YY, Two miles west of Brownsville.

Initial investigation in this crash showed a car operated by a 48-year-old woman from Brookfield, was westbound on 49 and lost control, crossing the center line of the roadway into the eastbound lane, colliding with the a semi car hauler. The semi pushed the car back into the westbound lane, into the path of an SUV. The semi entered the south ditch, and the two other vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

The 48-year-old woman that lost control was killed in the crash while the driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital.

The semi driver was uninjured.

Highway 49 was closed at the crash site for several hours while crews worked the scene.
