Oshkosh Police intercept drugs smuggled into Oshkosh Correctional Institution

The Oshkosh Police Department says two separate investigations have uncovered attempts to bring illegal drugs into the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.

Police say the investigations were conducted by the department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit in cooperation with prison officials.

In the first case, investigators say a 42-year-old woman from Cleveland, Ohio, was caught during a June 28th visit to an inmate.

Police say she had tobacco and several oxycodone pills concealed on her body.

The woman was referred to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office on a charge of delivering articles to an inmate. The inmate she was visiting was also referred for a charge of party to the crime.

Then, on August 18th, investigators say a 58-year-old Sturtevant woman was caught attempting to bring drugs into the prison.

Police say she was taken to a local hospital, where two balloons containing multiple Suboxone strips were recovered.

She was arrested and booked into the Winnebago County Jail.

The inmate she was visiting is also being referred for possible charges.

Police say they will continue working with correctional officials to prevent drugs and other contraband from entering the facility.
