Oshkosh Police Involved In Officer Involved Shooting

The Oshkosh Police Department has released information regarding an Officer involved shooting that occurred near the Mill Street boat launch in the City of Oshkosh early this morning.

At approximately 6:18 AM, Officers from the Oshkosh Police Department received information that there was an intoxicated male walking around carrying a loaded rifle.

Officers made contact with the man, who was carrying a rifle in his hands and began talking with him in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and to try to get him to put down the rifle which he refused to do.

Officers attempted to use less lethal rounds but the subject continued to hold the rifle in his hands.

The man then began to raise the rifle and point it at officers and an officer fired his duty issued rifle, striking the subject one time. He was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene and is conducting an investigation of the incident.

No officers were injured in the incident.
