A home owner in northwest Calumet county was found to have 124 cats late last week.

The cats were rescued from the hoarding situation in the town of Harrison on Friday and Fox Valley Humane Association managers say its the largest amount of cats they have ever taken in from a single home. They said surprisingly all the cats were in good health and were friendly and playful.

The situation was brought to the attention of authorities after a person in the area noticed a smell coming from the residence.

Once confronted, the homeowner willingly gave up all the cats. Now, members of the Fox Valley Humane Association are pleading with the public for donations of cash, litter and food, saying this case could cost them as much as $30,000. They also say they will need adoptees.

Cats taken from the home vary in age from kittens to over 6-years-old and will be ready for adoption as early as next week.
