PETA To Hand Out Free Plant Based Cheese Outside Cheese Festival

Attendees at Saturday’s Cheese Capital Festival in Stayer Park, at the end of Division Street in Plymouth will get a tasty treat before they even enter the main event—PETA supporters will hand out free Babybel Plant-Based cheese snacks and remind people that loving cheese and being kind to cows can go hand in hand.

“Cows love their calves, and cow’s milk is meant for baby cows, not humans,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges cheese lovers to be kind to cows by ditching dairy and indulging in the many delicious cashew, almond, and other plant milks and cheeses available.”

In a press release from PETA, they say “In the dairy industry, calves are torn away from their mothers within a day of birth so that the milk meant to nourish them can be stolen and sold to humans. PETA’s investigations into dairy facilities have found workers electroshocking cows in the face, hitting them with poles and a cane, and abusing them in other ways. Once their bodies wear out from repeated pregnancies, they’re sent to slaughter.”

The City of Plymouth’s Chamber of Commerce has announced in January, a new summer festival that will celebrate the city’s status as the “Cheese Capital of the World.”

The Cheese Capital Festival is an expansion of Family Music Fest which will debut on June 24 in downtown Plymouth.

The festival will feature various cheese-themed activities such as a cheese-themed parade, a cheese-eating contest, a cheese cooking contest, and a
presentation on cheese history.

Along with cheese, the festival will also include a variety of food and drink options, fun for children, and the chance to buy a cheese wedge to race down the Mullet River.

There will be three live performances of bands at Stayer Park Pavilion including Charlie Bucket, Sister Winchester, and another artist that is yet to be revealed.

The Cheese Capital Festival is being supported by the city’s “big four” cheese companies: Great Lakes Cheese, Masters Gallery Foods, Sargento, and Sartori.
