PHOTOS: History on the move in Fond du Lac

Local State Farm Agent, Sam Meyer, is moving an 1860’s brick building today, Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from the corner of Marr and 1st Street in the City of Fond du Lac to it’s new home at the corner of Main and Rees Street.

The building will be moved north down Marr Street to Merrill where it will curve towards Main Street and then north to Reese and Main Streets. The move is expected to take several hours.

The reason for the move? Meyer is moving and restoring the building and making it the new location for his State Farm Insurance office.

The building was originally built by former Fond du Lac Mayor and early physician T.J. Patchen. The building was later believed to be converted to a carriage house for horse drawn funeral carriages when owned by a local funeral home. The building was then used for storage when it was acquired by St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
