Pilot Killed In Area Plane Crash

The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a small aircraft crash that claimed the life of a male pilot, who was alone in the aircraft.

On October 26, 2023, at approximately 9:51 AM, the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center received a call from the Chicago Center Air Traffic Control Center of a low wing aircraft that had not arrived at its destination. The last known area of the aircraft was reported to be in the area of the Manitowoc County Airport.

Deputies from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office then began checking the area around the Manitowoc County Airport and located the downed aircraft in a wooded area, submerged in a pond, in the Township of Kossuth.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), are completing an investigation into this crash.

No further information is being released at this time as the crash remains under investigation.
