Plamore Park Open For Fun And Miracle League Baseball
The City of Fond du Lac held a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to officially open the new playground equipment and baseball field at Playmore Park.
The park and playground equipment, located at the corner of Division and Seymour Streets, was designed to be completely accessible for all people with varying abilities.
The park includes a baseball field, restrooms, playground, multi-purpose court, and small parking lot.
Miracle League baseball will be played on the custom-designed field that features a cushioned, rubberized, completely flat surface to prevent injuries and allow access to visually impaired, and those who use mobility devices. The playground equipment also sits on a flat base comprised of 12 inches of rubber pieces covered by a special rubberized surface.
The playground is a completely barrier-free; all-inclusive playground designed for children with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities.
Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore, who spoke at the ceremony, said, the park was years in the making and was made possible by donors and grants. Moore went on to say the park stood vacant as a plot of grass until area construction businesses turned it into an entire city block of usable park space.
Also speaking at the ceremony were City Council President Keith Heisler, Director of Public Works Paul DeVries, Executive Director, Brooke Industries, Inc. Kelli Hughes, and City of Fond du Lac Parks Superintendent John Redmond.
