Police respond to Evans School for mistaken report of a person with a gun

Just before 10 AM Thursday, September 12, 2024, a member of the public called the Fond du Lac County Communications Center to report that it looked like a man had entered Evans Elementary School on south Peters Avenue with a long gun.

City of Fond du Lac Police and County of Fond du Lac Sheriff’s deputies responded and surrounded the school while it was placed on lockdown.

Officers did a sweep of the building and found no issues, then took the caller’s description of the person and went through the building a second time. It was then that they found a member of the kitchen staff that matched the description and brought that person out to which the witness confirmed that was the person they saw.

When asked if they were carrying an object into the school, they replied an umbrella.

All units cleared after that.
