Possible Sonic Boom Heard/Felt In Fond du Lac County

Around 11 AM Tuesday morning, The Fond du Lac County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a rural residence saying they heard some sort of “explosion” that shook their house between Eden and Fond du Lac.

Eden Fire Department was dispatched to investigate and after about 20 minutes of searching, they found nothing.

It was learned that Eden Stone on County Highway V had done some blasting in the area around the time of the report, but due to other reports of the boom, and houses shaking stretching from Oshkosh to Dodge County, it was determined to be a sonic boom caused by a jet, possibly with the Northern Lightning military training exercise based out of Volk Field in Juneau County.

Northern Lightning is a tactical-level, training exercise replicating air battle with military fighter jets.

The training is expected to go on until August 19.
