Price of gas drops following spike resulting from refinery fire

The price of gas at the pump has started to come back down after an abrupt increase last week.

As we reported last Tuesday, October 21, 2025, prices jumped anywhere from 35 to 50 cents per gallon after a fire caused a power disruption at an Indiana refinery. The largest in the Great Lakes area.

It was expected that the incident would cause a spike locally in the Midwest, and it was reported the price spike would last a couple weeks.

Wednesday, area gas stations dropped prices about 20 cents, with 87 octane gasoline now at 2.69.

The price of gas as well as crude oil continues to drop nationwide so at least in the near term, prices should continue to fall.
