PHOTOS: Public safety personnel search Fond du Lac River after neighbor reports calls for help

At around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026, a neighbor along the west branch of the Fond du Lac River along Superior Street called for the assistance of the Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Police after they thought they heard calls for help coming from the area of the river.

Fire/Rescue personnel suited up in wetsuits and walked along the ice on the river, while police checked around bridges on Western Avenue and the railroad tracks, while also putting a drone in the air, but nothing was found that could indicate a person had broke through the ice.

Railroad traffic was halted temporarily while crews utilized the tracks to navigate along the river, but was opened back up after about 20 minutes after nothing was found.
