Quick thinking bystanders thwart possible armed robbery at Kwik Trip

Oshkosh Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at the Kwik Trip on 20th Avenue at Oregon Street Friday afternoon, September 6, 2024.

Just after 1 PM, Officers responded to a report of a man who had attempted a robbery and was now being held at gun point by an armed guard.

Investigation by police on scene showed the suspect had attempted to take a gun that a Loomis employee had while he was servicing the ATM machine inside the store.
As the suspect was physically trying wrestle the gun from the guard’s holster, three citizens intervened by holding the suspect down and preventing him from removing the gun.

Once the guard gained control of the situation, he held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived on scene.

Officers took the 22-year-old Oshkosh man into custody on charges of Attempted Homicide, Attempted Robbery, and Terroristic Threats.

Witnesses told police the man had recently been staying in his vehicle in the parking lot of the business.

Police say the prompt actions of the citizens who intervened to help the guard were instrumental in preventing further harm and de-escalating the situation swiftly.
