Red Cross looking for much needed donations on “Giving Day” March 26th

The American Red Cross of Wisconsin is issuing a call for help in the form of donations, to ensure no one faces a disaster alone.

The Red Cross has given the day of Wednesday, March 26th, the name of Red Cross Giving Day.

In a recent press release, the Red Cross says they’ve responded to many big disasters in the US during the first 50 days of 2025 including the Los Angeles wildfires and Kentucky flooding. And that’s in addition to everyday crises like home fires that upended lives here in Wisconsin. Also, they say weather is being blamed for lower than normal blood donations this year as well as going back to 2024.

Regional Executive and CEO of the Red Cross of Wisconsin Mark Thomas says “As we enter spring disaster season, families are relying on us to come together as a community and support them when help can’t wait and asks those that can, to make a financial donation or give blood or platelets.

The Red Cross is hoping to get at least 30,000 people to make a donation for Giving Day saying something as little as $3 can help give a person in need a comfort kit with supplies like a toothbrush, comb and shampoo, and a gift of $11 can provide a meal, snack and drink.

The Red Cross will perform free A1C testing to all blood and platelet donors in March, which is commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes. Additionally, all who come to give blood, platelets or plasma in March will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card.
