Referendums shot down as a state, despite getting positive votes in Fond du Lac County

Voters in Fond du Lac County were ok with limiting the power of the governor when it came to his ability to allocate federal funds given to the state for disaster relief or any other crisis, but as a state, that republican authored referendum was shot down.

Two questions that would have amended the state constitution were placed on the ballot in the Tuesday, August 13, 2024 partisan primary. If passed, the state legislators would have been able to have say in where funds go. A situation democrats and liberal groups say would just delay funds needed at the moment during an emergency, but republicans say its just a needed measure that would give a layer of checks and balances, and not give the governor isolated control over funds.

The principal for the referendum came about when billions of dollars were given to the state for Covid relief and republicans took issue with Evers being able to distribute the money without legislative approval.
