Rekindled controlled burn leads to barn fire

The dry weather plaguing our area is responsible for yet another fire. This one started an area barn on fire as well.

A land owner in the Campbellsport area had a controlled burn on his property earlier in the day Monday, October 22, 2024, and when he was done, he extinguished the fire. Or so he thought.

All it took was one remaining hot ember to be fanned by the wind for the fire to reignite, spreading to an area woodpile. A passerby called the Fond du Lac County Communications Center to advise of the fire and the Campbellsport Fire Department was dispatched.

Upon arrival at the W3543 Highway 67 address, the fire department saw the fire had further spread to a nearby barn. The call was quickly upgraded to a structure fire which brought in more departments, but the Campbellsport fire department had the fire out before most of the mutual aid arrived.
