Ripon HS Teacher Awarded National Teaching Fellowship
A teacher at Ripon High School has been awarded a national
teaching fellowship. The Knowles Teacher initiative announced Friday that Rachel
Thorson – a chemistry teacher at the school – was one of 37 high school science
and math teachers around the country be named as a member of its 2019 Cohort of
Teaching Fellows. Thorson began teaching a Ripon High School during the 2018-19
school year, after earning her Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Stevens Point and a
Master’s Degree from UW-Madison.
According to a news release, the Knowles Teaching
Fellowship is “an intensive and cohesive, five-year program that supports early-career
high school mathematics and science teachers in their efforts to develop teaching
expertise and lead from the classroom.” Fellows also have access to grants to
cover the cost of classroom materials, professional development resources and
the ability to take part in leadership activities, among other benefits.
