Ripon man facing felony charges after domestic incident leads to SWAT stand-off
A Ripon man is facing numerous felony charges after police say he held a victim against their will for hours and inflicted serious injuries before a lengthy SWAT standoff ended with his arrest.
According to the Ripon Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call on Friday, June 19, 2026, after a victim reported being violently assaulted. Police found the victim suffering from serious injuries. The victim told investigators they had been held against their will since the previous night by 38-year-old Jared Thurber, who was allegedly armed with a knife. The victim told officers they escaped by crawling out of the residence and flagging down a passing motorist for help.
Police learned Thurber had an active felony probation warrant and a history of violent offenses. A perimeter was established around the home, and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Fond du Lac Police Department SWAT teams responded. After several hours of unsuccessful negotiations, SWAT officers used specialized equipment and less-lethal tactics before Thurber exited the residence and was taken into custody.
The Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office has since filed a criminal complaint charging Thurber with multiple felonies, including strangulation and suffocation, aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, false imprisonment, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, felony intimidation of a victim, resisting an officer, mistreating animals, and disorderly conduct. Many of the charges include domestic abuse and repeater penalty enhancers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
