Road rage incident leads to short Fond du Lac pursuit and arrest
A 52-year-old Waupaca man was taken into custody Tuesday night, June 9, 2026, in the city of Fond du Lac after he couldn’t just let a road rage incident go.
Shortly before 11 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communications Center took a call from a concerned citizen who stated the driver of a pick-up truck was making hand gestures towards, and following the reporting person on Interstate 41 near Johnson Street.
The reporting person exited the highway pulling into the Target parking lot on Rolling Meadows, with the pickup truck driver following and parking nearby.
The driver of the pickup exited and was acting erratically at which time the driver of the car, indicating to the Communications center he feared for his and his family’s safety, was told to separate themselves and travel to the Walmart parking lot.
The driver of the pickup truck again followed the sedan to the Walmart parking which is where deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office arrived to see the caller again attempting to separate themselves from the pickup truck. A deputy activated their emergency lights and siren in an effort to stop the pickup truck, however the driver failed to stop and continued following the sedan.
With deputies now pursuing the pickup truck, the driver traveled northbound out of the parking lot of Target onto Scott Street, turning eastbound.
The driver then accelerated rapidly in an attempt to flee from deputies and continued eastbound on Scott Street reaching speeds of about 60 mph. The driver failed to stop at the stop sign near the intersection of Scott Street and Pioneer Road, continuing eastbound on Scott Street.
With deputies still pursuing at a high rate of speed, the driver turned from Scott Street onto north Peters Avenue, pulling into the Kwik Trip.
Because of the possible volatile situation, Kwik Trip was advised to go into a lockdown mode while sheriff’s deputies along with officers from the Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac Police Department initiated a high-risk traffic stop.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody without incident.
He’s now charged with Felony Fleeing/Eluding an Officer, four counts of 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Two counts of Disorderly Conduct.
