Rotary Event Serves as Fundraiser for Homeless Students (Audio)

The Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club is inviting the public to join members on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hotel Retlaw for the annual fundraiser, Wine Around the World.
Funds raised will provide much needed support to homeless students and their families in the Fond du Lac School District. “There are over 100 students currently homeless”, shared Linda Tack, Homeless Grant Coordinator of the past 7 years. “This is an increase of students from last year. The trauma of not knowing where you are going to sleep for the night makes schoolwork nearly impossible for children. We are seeing children who are having great difficulties with reading and math proficiency because they have moved around so much; their housing insecurity only makes that worse.”
“Monies raised from Wine Around the World will be used to cover gaps for the families. Students often need transportation, tutoring, food support, supplies, clothing, books and more,” said Barb Senn, Chair of Wine Around the World.
“We are celebrating 30 years of offering Wine Around the World to the Fond du Lac area. It is a legacy of caring with over $900,000 (all fundraising) raised by Morning Rotary and donated to local and international programs since its inception,” said Kate Candee, co-chair.
General wine tasting is from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. with tastings of over 100 different wines and beers from around the world; silent auction items include fine wines, sports outings, artwork, and cork pull. A basket of rare Scotch Whiskey has been donated to include: Glen Scotia, OBAN Little Bay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, Gordon and MacPhail Exclusive Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, 22 years old. In addition, a bottle of Gordon and MacPhail Strathisla Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, Distilled 1960 (rare, sold out, with box). Plus a bottle of Pappy VanWinkle Family Reserve, valued at $2,500.
General admission tickets are $75.00 and may be purchased online at www.hometowntickets.com, at Festival Foods Wine and Spirits or from a Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club member.
Barb and Candee joined KFIZ Today to talk more about the event.
