Sal’s Pizza opening doors Christmas Day, feeding those that need a meal or just want to not eat alone on Christmas
For a second year in a row, The Fond du Lac business Sal’s Pizza will be going out of their way to make sure the homeless and anyone needing a meal, or not wanting to be alone this Christmas will be able to have a hot meal.
Starting at 11 AM Christmas Day, the restaurant at 105 south Main Street, will be opening their doors and start serving free pizza, rolls and a soda to anyone in the community that needs the meal.
The program was spearheaded last year by Sal’s employee Robert Burnes, after he would hand out left over pizza at the end of the night to the area homeless population. That turned into the idea of making 150 slices of pizza Christmas day and heading out to areas where homeless would hang out during the day.
This year, Burnes refined the idea to open the restaurant so people could sit and eat in a warm atmosphere.
Sal’s says they are upping the meal count to 200 this year, and says one of the Subway restaurants in town has said they would drop off 200 cookies to go along with the pizzas.
