11 injured in school bus crash in northern Ozaukee County

Just before 7:30 Monday morning, September 16, 2024, a report of a school bus roll over crash came in to the Ozaukee County 911 Center.

It was reported there may be as many as 40 patients and multiple ambulance from Ozaukee, Sheboygan and Washington County were paged to the scene.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, a 2018 Jeep Cherokee was eastbound on Jay Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at County Highway E. The jeep struck the drivers side of the bus causing it to spin 180 degrees, flip on to its side and slide into the ditch. The bus was occupied by 36 students from the Random Lake School district ranging from kindergarten to high school age.

The Jeeps occupants, A 32 year old West Bend woman and 33 year old Random Lake man were injured and transported to the hospital as were the 53 year old driver of the bus and eight students on the bus. None of the injuries were reported as life threatening.

At 8:40 AM the Random Lake School District issued the following statement…

“Dear Parents/Guardians: This morning Bus 17 was involved in an accident. Students were injured and are receiving medical attention. All impacted families have been contacted and the remaining students on the bus are actively being picked up by their parents. As we know more information, we will update families. If you are concerned about your child at school, please contact the school office. The school counselors will be available to support families and students. Thank you.”
