Secret Service eyeing area to restrict during Republican National Convention
The Republican National Convention will be taking place in Milwaukee July 15th through the 18th but Secret Service are already planning out roughly where the area will be restricted for travel. It’s an area that loosely follows I-94 to the south, I-43 to the west, the Milwaukee River to the east and Cherry Street to the north. All surrounding the Fiserv Forum where most of the action will be taking place.
Secret Service say this is not an area cemented in place, rather it’s an advanced notice for those living in the area to get prepared for possible closed roads, and parking restrictions in or near this area.
It’s expected there will be layers of increasing security as you get closer to the main events at Fiserv Forum, as well as Panther Arena and the Baird Center. There will be fencing closer to those facilities which will need secret service clearance to pass through.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavilier Johnson said he wants the convention to be safe and secure, but also wants the downtown are to stay open for business and entertainment.
The city of Milwaukee has created a website with frequently asked questions and answers related to the convention.
