Senator Ron Johnson to Donate Paychecks to The Joseph Project Amid Government Shutdown

A Wisconsin organization is benefiting from the Government shutdown as Senator Ron Johnson is donating his income during the shutdown to it.

Johnson announced that he’ll be donating his paychecks to The Joseph Project for the duration of the federal government shutdown. The Joseph Project is a faith-based jobs initiative program that provides a week-long job preparation training program that teaches essential employability skills that help participants excel in job interviews and begin their steps up the career ladder. The program then links participants with Wisconsin employers.

The Joseph Project, based out of Milwaukee, was partially founded by Johnson after seeing a need for making the connection between people who are genuinely seeking opportunity and the opportunities that exist around the state. He joined Pastor Jerome Smith Sr. of Greater Praise Church of God in Christ in Milwaukee to co-found the Joseph Project in September 2015.

Johnson said in a statement yesterday, “Since the U.S. Constitution requires that I receive pay, even during a shutdown, I’ll be donating my paychecks to The Joseph Project. Every day the shutdown continues, the check gets a little bigger – compliments of Chuck Schumer.”
