Severe Thunderstorm Knocks Trees, Powerlines Down throughout Fond du Lac County
A late season thunderstorm raked across Fond du Lac County Sunday, September 25, 2022.
The storm came from the northwest and moved across the county to the southeast.
Shortly before 5 PM, a call came in of some trees down in Ripon near the intersection of Newbury and Griswold streets on the city’s south side and the 100 block of Locust on the east side of the city.
As the storm slid across the county, so did a trail of destruction.
The next call came in at 5:08 for Brandon/Fairwater Fire Department at County Highway E at Reed Street between Ripon and Fairwater for a report of wires down on the roadway.
At this point the National Weather Service out of Sullivan, Wisconsin issued a severe thunderstorm warning for most of Fond du Lac County, northeast Dodge County and northwest Sheboygan County until 5:45 PM.
At 5:18 a call came in that a tree fell on a trailer in the Elms Mobile Home Park on south Main Street in Fond du Lac. It was unknown if the trailer was occupied at the time the tree fell.
At 5:20 PM the Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue Department responded to 2nd Street just east of Ellis for a tree on a home.
At 5:21 a tree fell taking down a powerline with it on 11th Street near Bruce Street.
At 5:25 the Waupun Fire Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Seymour Street for a trampoline that blew into a light pole, causing it to lean towards the road.
At 5:29 the Town Of Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to County V just north of Pioneer Road for a fallen tree that took out a powerline.
At 5:30 Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue was called to 284 6th street for a report of an unoccupied vehicle in a driveway that had wires on it that were sparking. 6th Street was also covered in tree branches at this location.
At this point, due to the volume of calls coming in, Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue members were taping off locations with damage and then responding to the next call in line. Aliant Energy was also notified of each location that had wires down.
At 5:33 Campbellsport Fire was paged out to 326 south Fond du Lac Avenue for a wire down in the street in a puddle of water.
At 5:39 Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue was called to 297 Lloyd for branches on a wire.
At 5:53 Fond du Lac Fire was called for a tree that fell on a house and took out the gas meter at 400 Sherman Street.
At 5:59 Eden Fire was called to N5421 County K for a tree branch on powerlines.
At 6:52 Eden Fire was called to N2570 Creekview Road for a tree down on wires.
At 6:57 a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Officer advised the dispatch center that “Campbellsport is quite a mess from the storms.”
At 7:04, Campbellsport Fire was called to the 200 block of north Fond du Lac Avenue for a branch on a powerline and at 7:10 they were called to 215 Spring Street for a powerline down.
As of 7:50 PM, Alliant Energy’s outage website is reporting 650 people out of power in the Fond du Lac County area and WE Energies has 1700 people affected with outages in the southeastern portion of the county as well as the Lomira area.
