Severe Weather spotter training to be offered in Fond du Lac

Each year the National Weather Service conducts severe weather spotter classes in each county in Wisconsin to get the public, as well as emergency responders up to speed on what to look for and how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service.

It’s usually done during a time just before severe weather season starts in Wisconsin, but as Mother Nature has shown us this year, she doesn’t pay attention to a calendar, and severe weather can be possible at any time of the year. With that in mind, it’s never too early to start thinking about attending the training seminar for this year, which will take place on Wednesday, April 3rd.

Training will be led by a meteorologist from the National Weather Service and is free and open to the public. It’s highly recommended for members of law enforcement, fire service, EMS, dispatchers and other first responders and amateur radio operators. Pre-registration is not required.

This years class in Fond du Lac County will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Fond du Lac County Board Chambers, in the City County Government Center at 160 S. Macy Street in Fond du Lac.

The training provides information on severe weather safety, as well as, the differences between watches and warnings. Information will be presented on how to help the National Weather Service as a trained severe weather spotter.
