Shots Fired At Truck Driver, One Person Arrested
Road rage appears to the be the cause of a shooting incident late Saturday night.
FDL County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call from a truck driver just before 11:35 p.m. Saturday, that an unknown male driver had shot at the semi-truck trailer while traveling west on Hwy. 23 near Rosendale.
The caller said the suspect vehicle, a suburban-style, had continued west on Hwy. 23 towards Ripon.
City of Ripon Police Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and conduct a high risk traffic stop, taking the lone occupant into custody without further incident. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the location and took over the investigation. The suspect admitted to a road rage incident between himself and the semi-driver that resulted in the suspect firing a number of shots from a pistol at the semi-trailer.
Further investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies located three bullet holes on the truck trailer, with damage also inside the trailer. Sheriff’s Deputies retrieved bullet fragments from the trailer. Additionally, Sheriff’s Deputies searched the reported area near where the incident had occurred and located 4 expired shell casings. The casings were consistent to the casing located in the suspect vehicle and were the same caliber as the pistol located in the suspect vehicle.
Taken into custody was a 56 year old male from Downers Grove, IL who was transported to the FDL County Jail and is being held on multiple charges for recklessly endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon as a result from his actions during the incident.
Assistance was provided by the City of Ripon Police Department and at this time there is no additional reported damage as a result of the indecent aside from the semi-trailer and its contents.
