Six Crashes In Six Hours On I-41 In FDL County
The FDL County Sheriff’s Department responded to six different crashes in a six hour span on Saturday June 26, 2021.
The first crash occurred at 6:58 am between USH 151 and Hickory Street. This crash occurred when a southbound semi-tractor trailer travelling in the right lane lost control, entered the left lane striking another southbound vehicle. Both vehicles then entered the median striking the median cables. The semi-tractor came to rest in the median and partially blocking the left lane of northbound travel. The other vehicle travelled through the median cables and came to rest near the shoulder of northbound travel. The operator of the semi-tractor trailer was cited for failing to maintain control. There were no injuries as a result of this crash. This crashed caused the left lane of northbound traffic to be closed in the area of this crash for approximately two and a half hours.
The second crash occurred at 7:01 am between Hickory Street and Military Road. This crash occurred when a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid striking a vehicle which swerved or cut into the lane of travel. The vehicle which needed to take the evasive action then lost control and crashed through the highway fence for northbound traffic coming to rest on Mercury Marine property. The initial vehicle which may have caused this crash was not located. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
The third crash occurred at 8:14 am as a secondary crash between USH 151 and Hickory. The original crash scene was still in the process being cleaned up, with the left lane still closed. This crash occurred when a northbound vehicle failed to move over for the lane closure and struck a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office squad car in the rear. A Wisconsin State Patrol squad car was positioned south of the struck squad car signaling the beginning of the lane closure. The striking vehicle continued past the Wisconsin State Patrol squad car in the left lane before striking the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office squad. The Wisconsin State Patrol handled the investigation of this crash. The operator of the striking vehicle was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence. There were no injuries as a result of this crash. This crashed caused the left lane of northbound traffic to be closed in the area for an additional half an hour.
The fourth crash occurred at 9:21 am just north of CTH F. The vehicle in this crash had been reported as northbound vehicle driving erratically, all over both lanes of travel before crashing. This vehicle then lost control and crashed into the ditch area of northbound traffic. The operator of this vehicle suffers from a medical condition which may have led to the driving behavior. The operator of this vehicle was also reported as a Missing Person from Langlade County, Wisconsin for behavior related to this medical condition. The operator was safely reunited with family members. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
The fifth crash occurred at 10:33 am between Military Road and Johnson Street. This crash occurred when the operator of a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid debris, lost control, and struck the concrete median barrier. Initial reports were that the occupants were injured, however the occupants were treated on scene by Fond du Lac Fire Paramedics and released. No one was transported for any injuries.
The sixth crash occurred at 12:36pm just north of CTH F. This crash occurred when a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid striking a vehicle which was attempting to re-enter traffic from the northbound shoulder. The vehicle which needed to take the evasive action then lost control and crashed into the northbound ditch. The vehicle which caused this crash was located and the operator was cited for failing to yield to traffic. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
