Small Fire Extinguished at The Uba-Brews, Blends and Bites Coffee Shop

On Thursday June 16th at 8:28am. FDLFR was called to The Uba-Brews, Blends and Bites coffee shop at 814 S Main St. for a small electrical fire. When crews arrived, they found a small fire in the ceiling surrounding a bathroom vent fan. An extinguisher was used by employees of the coffee shop prior to fire department arrival which left a small amount of fire in the vent fan and in a trash can in the restroom. Remainder of fire was extinguished with a water extinguisher by fire crews. 

Overhaul of the area was completed to ensure no fire spread to the attic area of the building. 

Investigators on scene found that the fire started with the motor of the bathroom vent fan and spread to some combustibles in the restroom when burning plastic fell from the ceiling. 

No injuries were reported and both employees were able to exit the building safely. 

The coffee shop will remain closed until the building can be cleaned of the extinguisher agent and inspected by health department officials.
