Snow and fire blamed for 1000s being unable to donate blood this month

The American Red Cross is pleading with Americans to give blood as around 500 blood drives around the country have been canceled due to snow and ice storms, and the fires out in California this month.
The already depleted supply of blood and platelets has become even lower as the Red Cross estimates about 12,000 donors weren’t able to donate. This comes at a time when donations often are low anyway as people are more reluctant to venture out in the cold weather for a blood drive.
Blood of all types is needed but type O negative is the lowest in supply.
As an incentive to donate, those who give through Jan. 26, will be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the Super Bowl in New Orleans. The trip includes round-trip airfare, three-night hotel accommodations plus a $1,000 gift card for expenses. For full details, visit the website RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl.
