Southern Wisconsin cleans up after weekend floods and tornadoes

Clean up continues for many southern Wisconsin residents after flooding rains and tornadoes swept through the area Saturday.

In Waupun, Mayor Rohn Bishop declared a disaster due to the flooding which would open the doors for assistance from Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties and the state.
Many of the roads were impassable Saturday night and the Rock River was well above flood stage.

In Eden, a car was swept off the road by rushing water and fully submerged in a creek just off the road. The vehicles occupant was able to make it out of the car safely.

I-41 just south of Fond du Lac was down to a crawl during the rain as standing water in the area hampered travel there.

Farther south, the National Weather Service has documented 6 tornadoes touching down in Saturdays storms. The closest to the Fond du Lac area was one just west of Watertown where an EF1 rated tornado traveled about two miles, damaging some farm buildings and trees. The strongest of the tornadoes was an EF2 which affected the Janesville area.

Severe weather warnings in Milwaukee and Walworth counties caused the concert events Summerfest and Dave Mathews Band at Alpine Valley to be shut down. Summerfest eventually reopened but the Alpine Valley concert was needed to be rescheduled.

More rain, with possible severe weather is forecasted to affect the area late Monday night which could add to already serious flooding issues.
