–Ripon’s Melvin Lee hits a three pointer at the buzzer to win it for the Tigers. Ripon will face Martin Luther in the sectional championship game on Saturday.

The WIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament continues today at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Today’s action begins with the Division 5 semifinals at 9:05 am, the Division 2 semifinals follow at 1:35 pm, and the Division 1 semifinals cap off the evening at 6:35 tonight.

In yesterday’s state action, Martin Luther and Edgewood advanced to the Division 3 state championship game on Saturday, while Howards Grove and Aquinas will play for the Division 4 state championship game.

Big Ten Tournament:

–Michigan plays top-seeded Purdue in today’s quarterfinals.

–The Spartans play #4 seed Minnesota in today’s quarterfinals

NFL Free Agency opened on Thursday:

The Packers have re-signed linebacker Nick Perry. His deal is reportedly a five year deal worth $60 million dollars, that includes $18.5 million in guarantees. Perry appeared in 14 games with 12 starts last season, leading the team with a career-high 11 sacks, 60 tackles and the first interception of his career with another seven tackles coming in the playoffs.

Former Packers safety Micah Hyde has signed with the Buffalo Bills. His contract is worth a reported $30 million over five years, with about $14 million in guarantees. Hyde was drafted in the fifth round in the 2013 draft by Green Bay and started 33 games for the Packers. Hyde tallied 45 tackles last season with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Former Packers center JC Tretter has signed with the Cleveland Browns. Terms of his deal were not disclosed, but he was expected to sign with Cleveland at the open of free agency yesterday afternoon. Tretter started 10 games in his career in Green Bay, including seven last year, before suffering a knee injury midway through the year. He underwent surgery in January and is expected to be ready for the season opener.

SportsTrust Advisors, the agency representing Eddie Lacy, said on Twitter that the free agent running back will visit with the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers over the next four days.

Lacy played with the Packers the last four seasons after being drafted out of Alabama in the second round in 2013. He ran for 1,100 yards in each of his first two seasons in the league. Lacy’s 2016 season was cut short in October by an ankle injury.

The Chicago Bears have released quarterback Jay Cutler after eight unfulfilling seasons that included just one postseason appearance. The Bears went 3-13 while Cutler missed 11 games due to thumb and shoulder injuries. Also in the NFL Thursday, the Broncos traded quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Browns, the Buccaneers worked out a three-year deal with wide receiver DeSean Jackson, and wideout Alshon Jeffery accepted a one-year pact with the Eagles.
