Crew Hammered

Brewers prospect Johny Hellweg pitched a scoreless first inning after the Brewers gave him a 3-0 lead.  The 2nd, not so good, as he recorded just outs as the Pirates scored 7 and went on to win 10-3 on Friday night.  The last place Brewers go at it again tonight.  Coverage begins at 5:30pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.

Thornburg Recalled

With Hellweg’s struggles the Brewers decided to add another arm to bolter their bullpen.  The team recalled pitcher Tyler Thornburg after last night’s game.  They sent outfielder Caleb Gindl back to the minors.

Hart Out

Brewers first baseman Cory Hart will miss the rest of the 2013 season because of bad knees.  Hart has missed the entire season so far recovering from surgery on his right knee.  Now he’ll have to go under the knife for his left knee.  Hart is in the final year of a contract and will be a free agent at season’s end.  Ryan Braun continues to miss time with a hand injury.  Carlos Gomez did play last night.  He’s been out after injuring his shoulder making a a catch against the wall last week.
