Brewers Win Again
The Brewers routed the Miami Marlins 10-1 in their series final last night in Florida. The Crew put up three runs in the first on a Jonathan Lucroy bases clearing triple and never looked back. Carlos Gomez had a pair of triples and Jean Segura hit his 10th homer in the win. Alfredo Figaro struck out 4 and gave up just 3 hits in 7 shutout innings to notch the win. Ryan Braun sat out again with an ailing hand he hopes to play again on Friday night. The Brewers take today off and open up a three game weekend series in Cincinnati on Friday night. NBA Finals
The Spurs host the Heat in Game 4 of the NBA Finals tonight in San Antonio. The Spurs blew out Miami in Game 3 to take a 2-1 series lead.
Bucks Assistant Coaches Gone
New Bucks head coach Larry Drew will not retain any of the assistants that were on Jim Boylan and Scott Skiles’ staff. The former staff included Kohler native Joe Wolf and Bucks great Sidney Moncrief. Kenosha native Nick Van Excel is expected to be on Drew’s new staff.
Badger Football Player Transfers
Red-shirt freshman Reggie Mitchell has decided to leave the University of Wisconsin and transfer to Pitt. Mitchell was tabbed to be a starter at safety this season for new head coach Gary Andersen. Mitchell was recruited by Joe Rudolph who went to Pitt when Paul Chryst was given the head coaching job.
Stanley Cup Finals
The Chicago Blackhawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Boston 4-3 in triple-overtime in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Andrew Shaw had the game winner at 12:08 of the 3rd OT. The game was the 5th longest finals game in league history. Game two is Saturday night in Chicago.
US Open
The U.S. Open is set to begin at Merion today outside of Philadelphia. The course has seen six inches of rain since last Friday so the rough will be long but the greens should be soft. Rain is in the forecast for today as well.
NASCAR Driver Dies
NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died while racing at a dirt track event in New Jersey last night. Leffler was a two-time winner on the Nationwide Series but lost his ride this year so he turned to the dirt tracks. He was 37.
WIAA State Baseball Tournament
Waupun fell to Lodi 6-1 in the WIAA Division Two State Spring Baseball Semifinals last night at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton. Lodi advances to play Green Bay Notre Dame in the D2 Championship Game. The D4 title game starting at 9am features Greenwood and Lake Country Lutheran. In D3 Oconto plays Westby at Noon. The D2 game with Notre Dame and Lodi is at 3pm. The Division One championship at 6pm features Stevens Point and Sun Prairie.
WIAA Girls Soccer
The WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament begins today in Milwaukee with Division One Quarterfinal action.
