Girls Tennis:

WIAA Division 2 Sub-Sectionals (At Lodi):

St. Mary’s Springs’ Abby Michels in #1 singles and the #1 doubles team of Eleanor Stone/Isa Hopper advance to sectionals.

Mayville’s Alaina Hazelberg in #2 singles and Sierra Schellpfeffer in #4 singles advance to sectionals, while the #1 doubles team of Kasey Wandling and Theresa Liska advance to sectionals as well.  

The Oakfield Oaks football team is the Hierl Insurance High School Team of the Week. The Oaks defeated Madison Abundant Life 74-18 on Friday to claim the Great Eight Conference Championship. In the win, Eric Jacob threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while Eli Liebelt carried the ball 13 times for 205 yards and four touchdowns in the rout. The unbeaten Oaks travel to Port Edwards on Friday and wrap up the regular season with a home game against Lake Forest Academy of Illinois on the 13th.

College Football:

Badgers safety Natrell Jamerson was named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Wisconsin’s win over Northwestern on Saturday. Jamerson had two interceptions, including one he returned 38 yards for a touchdown in the 33-24 win over the Wildcats. Jamerson also tallied six tackles, assisted on one of the Badgers eight sacks as a team and broke up another pass. The award is Jamerson’s first Defensive Player of the Week honor, and Wisconsin’s first since Ryan Connelly earned it in October of last year.

Monday Night Football:

Kansas City 29, Washington 20

–Alex Smith threw for 293 yards and a touchdown to Travis Kelce as the Chiefs remained unbeaten with a win over Washington on Monday Night Football. Kelce had seven catches for 111 yards, while rookie Kareem Hunt carried the ball 21 times for 121 yards.

NBA Preseason:

Dallas 106, Milwaukee 104

–Rashad Vaughn had 20 points, Khris Middleton and Greg Monroe each had 12 as the Bucks dropped their preseason opener in Dallas Monday night.

MLB:

The postseason gets underway tonight with the American League Wild Card game, as the Twins travel to New York to face the Yankees. Ervin Santana gets the start for Minnesota against Luis Severino for the Yankees. The winner advances to take on Cleveland in the ALDS.
