–Fond du Lac Girls finish 12th at the Oshkosh High School Invitational – Large Schools. Ally Gietzel takes 3rd place in the long jump, the 4X400 meter relay also finished in 3rd place.
National Football League owners have voted 31-1 to approve the relocation of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas. The decision was a foregone conclusion after the league and Raiders were not satisfied with Oakland’s proposals for a new stadium, and Las Vegas stepped up with $750 million in public money. Bank of America also is giving Davis a $650 million loan, further helping to persuade owners to allow the third team relocation in just over a year. The Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016, and in January the Chargers relocated from San Diego to LA,
College Basketball: Lonzo Ball of UCLA, Josh Hart of Villanova, Frank Mason III of Kansas, Purdue’s Caleb Swanigan and Gonzaga’s Nigel Williams-Goss are the finalists for the John R. Wooden Award as college basketball’s player of the year. The five have been invited to Los Angeles for the trophy presentation at the College Basketball Awards on April 7
From women’s basketball, Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies have been on an unprecedented Final Four run, making it there 10 straight years. Next up for the Huskies, who have won 111 consecutive games, is Mississippi State on Friday night. Stanford will face South Carolina in the other national semifinal, giving the Southeastern Conference two teams in the Final Four for the first time since 2008.
Retired baseball commissioner Bud Selig will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers’ opener next week. The Brewers said Monday they will recognize the team’s former owner as
he prepares to enter the Hall of Fame this summer. Selig will take the mound April 3 before the Brewers host the Colorado Rockies.
Selig will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 30, on his 83rd birthday. He is the fifth of 10 commissioners to reach the Hall. Selig’s title is now “commissioner emeritus” after 22½ years as baseball’s leader.
