–Hailey Becker totaled 25 assists, Sam Bernhard 10 kills, Lexi Liveri had seven aces and six kills.

The Hierl Insurance High School Team of the Week is the Winnebago Lutheran Boys Soccer team. The Vikings went 3-0-1 in action last week, and didn’t allow a goal in any of those games. WLA won 5-0 over New Holstein, 8-0 over Omro, 4-0 over Sheboygan South and tied Wauwatosa West 0-0. In last Thursday’s win over Omro, Kyler Narance and Ben Dorst each totaled three goals. The Vikings play at Central Wisconsin Christian tonight.

Pittsburgh 7, Milwaukee 0

–The Brewers managed just three hits against Pirates pitching as they were shutout at home by Pittsburgh in Monday night’s series opener. Pirates starter Steven Brault allowed just one hit in six innings on the mound and collected two hits and two RBI at the plate in the win for Pittsburgh. Brandon Woodruff took the loss for the Brewers, allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Game two of the series is tonight, Brent Suter gets the start for the Brewers and will face Gerrit Cole for the Pirates. Coverage begins at 6:05, first pitch at 6:40 on KFIZ.

American League:

College Football:

Wisconsin freshman running back Jonathan Taylor was named co-offensive player of the week and freshman of the week in the Big Ten this week after his big day against Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Taylor ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-14 win at Camp Randall Stadium that moved the Badgers to 2-0 on the year. Taylor shared honors with Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley. Stanley, a Menomonie, Wisconsin native threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns in the Hawkeyes’ overtime win over in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday.

NFL:

Minnesota 29, New Orleans 19

–Sam Bradford threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, two of those to Stefon Diggs as the Vikings won their season opener at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Former Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson, now with the Saints, totaled just 18 yards rushing on six carries in last night’s game. Minnesota is at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Denver 24, LA Chargers 21

–Trevor Siemian threw two touchdown passes to Bennie Fowler as the Broncos held off the Chargers in Denver Monday night. Former Badger Melvin Gordon had 54 yards rushing and a receiving touchdown for the Chargers in the loss.
